However, if it is barely present and turns yellow and then red, it’s time to charge your Onewheel quickly. As soon as you charge your Onewheel, the Lightbar pulses with a white light. The Lightbar also helps you determine if you’re activating the footpad correctly. If the left half of the Lightbar lights up blue, you’re using the left side of the footpad and vice versa for the right side. If the entire Lightbar lights up blue, you’re activating the entire footpad. When riding at high speed, the light indicator turns off so you’re not distracted. The Onewheel Brand The idea for Onewheel originated when Canadian engineer Kyle Doerksen, inspired by his passion for snowboarding and skateboarding, sought a new way to experience the feeling of boarding on his daily commute. After moving to California, he began to turn this dream into reality. He experimented late at night and on weekends in his garage until he invented the first prototype of the Onewheel with chain drive, the "Old Iron Slides," in 2008. Over the years, the design was refined, improving handling, agility, and the motor until the original Onewheel was completed in 2013. In 2014, a successful Kickstarter campaign raised the necessary capital for the mass production of the first Onewheel model.
